Training Courses

A major component of the SEGR is education and training. SEGR provides an on-site comfortable classroom where a wide variety of classes are offered for everything from basic handgun safety, TN Handgun Carry Permit Course, advanced level handgun classes and rifle training for both tactical and precision long range. 

Strategic Edge Inc. developed its Gun Range with three sided autonomous pistol/tactical-rifle shooting bays and two covered rifle range structures for prone and benched centerfire rifle shooters. We have centerfire rifle shooting from 100 to 1250 yards and rimfire (22LR only) shooting at 25, 50, 75, 100, 200 and 300 yards. 

We offer a wide variety of traditional and steel targets to properly develop and hone your accuracy, speed and tactical proficiencies in ways completely unavailable to individuals utilizing indoor shooting facilities where customers are prohibited from practicing their drawstroke, tactical movements or unconventional shooting. Trauma 1

Trauma 1 is a basic approach to basic trauma. In this course we will discuss and practice AHA CPR, the basic recognition of and treatment of penetrating/ballistic trauma, the basics of airway management. In this course we will teach you how and what should be in your trauma kits and alternative supplies that may be useful. In this course you will see case studies of real-life situations and will be challenged on the knowledge you have learned. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Trauma 2

After completion of Trauma 1, Trauma 2 which is a more in-depth approach to ballistic trauma and treatment. We will discuss the physiology of circulatory system and the airway. And treatment of these systems. Trauma 2 will include advanced airway control, needle compression techniques and basic suturing. This course will last 4 hours. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Stop The Bleed

Stop the bleed is as course supported and created by the American college of surgeons.

In the “Stop the Bleed Course”, you'll learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out: (1) How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound; (2) How to pack a wound to control bleeding; (3) How to correctly apply a tourniquet. We will discuss and have on hand different types of tourniquets and bandaging to practice with. This course is approximately 1.5 hours, and you will receive a stop the bleed certificate.

Handgun I: Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Certification

This course meets and/or exceeds the State of Tennessee’s minimum educational requirements for obtaining a Handgun Carry Permit. Our State approved training covers a variety of important topics such as: Basic firearms nomenclature (parts breakdown/identification/description/function), firearms safety, firing range safety rules, safe loading and unloading, fundamentals of marksmanship, safe firearms handling, as well as the legal issues related to personal protection, armed confrontations and firearms carry. Students are required to spend time in both the classroom and firing range. The course requires shooting from 3 to 7 Yards only. After course completion, students will receive a special State certificate used in the application process of obtaining your handgun carry permit. The course is focused on the inexperienced shooter. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Handgun II: Basic Handgun Fundamentals & Carry Tactics

This course is intended for law enforcement officers seeking “in-service” type reinforcement training or civilians who have some experience but want to push themselves and their shooting skills beyond the State required minimums and learn the basics of tactical carry and practical shooting. Students will refine and broaden their marksmanship skills as well as their draw-stroke, malfunction mitigation, tactical and empty gun reloading and basic defensive tactics. This course is a pre-requisite for the majority of our more advanced handgun courses. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Course Length - 8 Hours Fee - $200 Minimum Ammunition Required - 500 rounds

Handgun III: Close Quarters Combat (CQC) and Tactical Carry

This is an advanced level shooting course designed to refine and enhance your existing skill level with a strong emphasis on perfecting the draw-stroke, quick target acquisition, shooting speed and tactical movement in close quarters engagements. The Handgun II course is a pre-requisite to attendance. Handgun III helps to prepare the student with the skills and information to survive most deadly force encounters. While our 2nd level course refines the shooting skills, our level III course brings the realities of real deadly force shootings into focus and bridges the gap from advanced fundamentals to tactical proficiency. Repetitive drills and an intense focus on minimizing time-consuming and unnecessary motion will significantly enhance the student’s proficiency and awareness. This class will include low-light shooting drills. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Low Light Handgun

This course is designed to familiarize shooters with firing a handgun in low light/no light conditions. Most violent crimes occur during the hours of darkness, but very little time is spent training in such conditions. In this course shooters will learn how light affects human vision and what to expect during low light conditions, the pros/cons of handheld light applications and how/when to properly apply them, key principles of low-light tactics, the concept of light as a force option, identify various lighting conditions and utilizing weapon mounted lights. A quality handheld light with a tail switch and minimum of 100 lumens is recommended. Weapon mounted lights are not required for this class, but are highly recommended.

Course Length - 5 Hours Fee - $200 Minimum Ammunition Required - 250 rounds

Handgun:  Private Instruction

In this setting the student will have the benefit of the instructor's full attention and knowledge. With private instruction the student benefits by learning new skills in a shorter time frame. Students not only receive an instructor's complete syllabus in whatever topic the student desires but also benefits from asking specific questions and getting answers tailored to the students' personal learning objectives.

Instructors are available to teach a variety of subjects and can tailor the instructional services over longer periods with shorter individual sessions of as little as one hour.

COST: The cost of private instruction is specific to the individual instructor and the type of instruction requested.

COURSES OFFERED: We offer a full range of private instructional support from firearm familiarization and nomenclature to advanced CQC and unconventional shooting techniques.

Carbine I: Basic Short Rifle (M4/AR-15)

This course is a one-day introduction to the basics of the M4/AR-15 carbine rifle system. This is a course that is especially geared toward the inexperienced or new carbine rifle owner. Students will become proficient in the take-down, cleaning, general maintenance, sight adjustment/alignment and basic marksmanship as well as ammunition selection and external ballistics. Other carbine rifles such as the SKS/AK platform rifles are allowed but the course is specifically geared toward the Colt patent rifles. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Carbine II: Tactical Carbine (M4/AR-15)

This course was designed to deliver an advanced level of tactical marksmanship, speed and proper movement principles to the carbine owner who may have some practical knowledge of firearms in general but who may lack the specific skills needed to navigate a CQC deadly encounter with a carbine rifle. Iron sights, tactical optics or holographic style optics required with zero set prior to class. Carbine I is a pre-requisite.  Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Precision Reloading Class

This course is a specialized class intended to teach precision single stage reloading from a basic to advanced level. Students will learn about equipment selection, nomenclature, basic and advanced techniques, burn rates, harmonic theory and a host of other information concerning interior ballistics. Students enrolling in this course will experience hands on loading and learn the methods for testing their handloads.

Shooter Ballistics

This course is a specialized class intended to teach shooters how to set up and run the Shooter Ballistics Program. It also covers the meaning behind each setting. Students enrolling in this course must bring a phone or tablet (either Android or Apple) with the program installed along with all updates. Internet connection(s) will be available.

Introduction to Long Range Shooting

This course is intended to give members an idea and basic understanding of what it takes to make first round hits at long range. Topics such as equipment & tools needed, safety requirements, external ballistics, controlled & uncontrolled variables, wind reading and  ballistic programs as well as many more are covered.

Precision Rifle I: Long Gun Fundamentals

This course is intended for shooters who want to increase their skill and knowledge of the long rifle as a system. The classroom portion will consist of a rifle and gear assessment, recommendations for equipment, fundamentals review, and the reasoning behind fundamentals. Then it is off to the firing line for sight-in and fundamental shooting drills that are a must for every serious precision shooter to have in his or her toolbox. Students enrolling in this course must bring a quality bolt-action or a semi-automatic center-fire rifle, in good working condition, chambered in calibers equal to or larger than .223, which is also equipped with a good-quality optical sight, and bi-pod. A rear bag is also required. Students will will be shooting at a distance of 100 yards. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Precision Rifle II: Exterior Ballistics In Practice

This course requires the skills learned in the Long Gun Fundamentals course and focuses on exterior ballistics in real world use. You will learn how to arrive at your scope correction factor, use multiple B.C.'s and true your shooting solutions for the up-most accuracy at distance. You will experience both controlled and uncontrolled variables and learn the correct way to deal with them in the field. Students will be shooting from 100 through 1250 yards. Students enrolling in this course must bring a quality bolt-action or a semi-automatic center-fire rifle, in good working condition, chambered in calibers equal to or larger than .308, which is also equipped with a good-quality optical sight and shoulder strap/sling as well as a rear bag. Students are expected to bring rifles that are properly pre-zeroed at 100 yards. Precision Rifle I and the Shooter Ballistics Class are a pre-requisite and you will need ammunition capable of at least 1 MOA at distance. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Precision Rifle III: Advanced Long Range Rifle

This course further refines the skills acquired in the Precision Rifle I & II courses. The instructor will cover wind reading, hi / low angle shots, position shooting, sling use, obstacle shooting, and low light conditions and a host of other subjects.  This course builds on the concepts of marksmanship by teaching the student how to shoot to the strongest position. Students will be shooting from 100 to 1250 yards in varying light and wind conditions. Students are expected to bring rifles that are properly zeroed at 100 yards and chambered for cartridges capable of sustaining supersonic velocity at 1000 yards. Students should contact the instructor for a list of other required gear. Precision Rifle II is a pre-requisite. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.
