Training Courses

A major component of SEGR is education and training. We provide comfortable, on-site classrooms where a wide variety of courses are offered, covering everything from basic handgun safety, TN Handgun Carry Permit, to advanced level handgun and rifle training for tactical and precision long range.

Strategic Edge Inc. Developed its ranges with three-sided autonomous pistol/tactical rifle shooting bays, two covered rifle range structures for prone and benched centerfire shooters from 100-1550yds, plus a dedicated rimfire range (22LR only) from 25-300yds.

The ranges have a wide variety of steel and traditional targets to properly develop and hone accuracy, speed, and tactical proficiency skills in ways unavailable at indoor ranges, where customers are prohibited from practicing draw strokes, tactical movement, and unconventional shooting.

Safety Orientation 

This video is a required watch to become a member. Covering the standard safety rules, it is an important part of your becoming a member and safety officer. Existing members will benefit from watching as a refresher, to keep the rules front and center.

Range Tour & Do's and Don'ts 

This video is designed to help new members find their way around the range and better understand our safety requirements. Also, a good refresher for existing members, will help you be more familiar with the layout of the Range, the rules, and what to do and not to do.

Course Length - 36 Minutes Fee - Free To Members

Long Range Qualifier 

The Long-Range Qualifier video is part of qualifying to use the long-range facilities. Once completed, you will receive a “Long-Range” sticker for your membership card. Once qualified, you can shoot past 500 yards on the Range. The video covers additional safety rules and is an important step to you being a safety officer. Note: Only members with the “LR” sticker may shoot on the long range, unless accompanied by an SEGR instructor. Existing members will benefit from watching as a refresher.

Course Length - 42 Minutes Fee - Free To Members

50 BMG, Big Bore, and Over Bore Qualifier 

This video is a requirement for anyone wishing to shoot Over/Big bore cartridges (over 338 caliber to 50 BMG). Once completed, you will be issued a separate card that enables you to shoot those firearm types/sizes on the Range. The video covers additional safety rules, focusing on big/over bore cartridges, and is the third level in qualifying as a safety officer. Note: Only 50BMG card holders may shoot qualifying firearms unless accompanied by an SEGR instructor. Existing members will benefit by watching this video as a refresher.

Shooter Ballistics

This video course is specialized and intended to teach shooters how to set up and run the “Shooter Ballistics” Program. It covers the meaning behind each setting. Students enrolling in this course must have an Android or apple phone or tablet, and the Shooter Ballistics program installed along with updates.

Introduction to Long Range Shooting

This course is intended to give members an idea and basic understanding of what it takes to make first round hits at long range. Topics such as equipment & tools needed, safety requirements, external ballistics, controlled & uncontrolled variables, wind reading and  ballistic programs as well as many more are covered.

Classroom Training Courses

Trauma 1

This course is an approach to basic Trauma care. We will discuss and practice AHA CPR, the recognition and treatment of penetrating/ballistic trauma, and the basics of airway management. We will cover your “trauma kit”, what to have and its use, as well as alternative supplies that can be useful. We will discuss case studies of real-life situations/events and challenge your knowledge and understanding. “Stop the Bleed” is included in this class. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Trauma 2

Trauma 2 is a more in-depth approach to trauma. You must complete Trauma 1 to qualify for this class. We will have detailed discussions on the physiology of the circulatory and airway systems including treatment, covering: advanced airway control, needle decompression techniques, and basic suturing. Upon completion, you will receive a “Certificate of Completion”.

Precision Reloading Class

This course is specialized and intended to teach Precision rifle loading and load development. You will learn basic through advanced loading techniques, equipment requirements, safety, testing, and a host of other information concerning internal/external ballistics. Students will experience “hands-on” portions of the process. Lunch is provided.

Classroom/Range Courses

Handgun I: Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Certification

This course meets and/or exceeds the State of Tennessee’s minimum educational requirements for obtaining a Handgun Carry Permit. Our State approved training covers a variety of important topics such as: Basic firearms nomenclature (parts breakdown/identification/description/function), firearms safety, firing range safety rules, safe loading and unloading, fundamentals of marksmanship, safe firearms handling, legal issues related to personal protection, armed confrontations, and firearms carry. Students are required to spend time in both the classroom and firing range. The course requires shooting from 3 to 7 Yards only. After course completion, students will receive a special State certificate used in the application process of obtaining your handgun carry permit. The course is focused on the inexperienced shooter. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Handgun II: Basic Handgun Fundamentals & Carry Tactics

This course is designed for civilians who already possess basic handgun experience and want to push their abilities beyond basic qualification standards.

Students will refine and expand their core shooting fundamentals while developing practical defensive handgun skills. Instruction will focus on improving marksmanship, efficient draw-stroke mechanics, malfunction clearing, tactical and emergency reloads, and basic defensive gun-handling techniques.

This is a foundational skill-building course intended to prepare students for our more advanced handgun training programs and serves as a prerequisite for higher-level classes.

Training will take place outdoors, and students should come prepared for all weather conditions.

Course Length - 8 Hours Fee - $200 Minimum Ammunition Required - 500 rounds

Handgun III: Close Quarters Combat (CQC) and Tactical Carry

This advanced-level handgun course is designed to refine, pressure-test, and elevate your existing shooting skills. Building upon the foundations established in earlier courses, this course challenges experienced shooters to refine their mechanics, eliminate wasted movement, and develop the speed and efficiency required in real defensive encounters. Handgun II, or equivalent experience, is a required prerequisite for this course.

While Level II focuses on refining shooting fundamentals, Handgun III moves beyond fundamentals and into the realities of armed defensive encounters. Students will train in a more dynamic environment that bridges the gap between advanced marksmanship and true tactical proficiency.

Training will focus on developing the ability to deploy a handgun quickly, efficiently, and decisively under stress. Through repetitive drills and focused instruction, students will learn to eliminate unnecessary motion, reduce reaction time, and increase overall efficiency with their firearm.

Training will take place outdoors, and students should come prepared for all weather conditions.

Low Light Handgun

Most violent encounters occur during the hours of darkness, yet very little firearms training is conducted in low-light or no-light environments. This course is designed to prepare shooters to safely and effectively deploy a handgun when visibility is limited.

Students will learn how low-light conditions affect human vision, perception, and reaction time, while developing the skills necessary to identify threats and operate their firearm effectively in reduced lighting environments.

Instruction will focus on practical techniques for managing a handgun and a light simultaneously, as well as understanding how illumination can be used to identify threats, control situations, and maintain a tactical advantage. Students will participate in live-fire drills conducted in low-light and no-light conditions designed to build confidence, safety, and efficiency when operating a handgun in darkness.

Equipment Requirements

• A quality handheld flashlight with a tail-cap switch

• Minimum output of 100 lumens

• Weapon-mounted lights are not required but strongly recommended

This training will take place outdoors after dark, and students should come prepared for all weather conditions.

Course Length - 5 Hours Fee - $200 Minimum Ammunition Required - 250 rounds

Handgun:  Private Instruction

In this setting the student will have the benefit of the instructor's full attention and knowledge. With private instruction the student benefits by learning new skills in a shorter time frame. Students not only receive an instructor's complete syllabus in whatever topic the student desires but also benefits from asking specific questions and getting answers tailored to the students' personal learning objectives.

Instructors are available to teach a variety of subjects and can tailor the instructional services over longer periods with shorter individual sessions of as little as one hour.

COST: The cost of private instruction is specific to the individual instructor and the type of instruction requested.

COURSES OFFERED: We offer a full range of private instructional support from firearm familiarization and nomenclature to advanced CQC and unconventional shooting techniques.

Carbine I: Basic Short Rifle (M4/AR-15)

This course is designed for new or inexperienced carbine owners who want to build a solid foundation with the AR-15/M4 rifle platform. Whether you are a new rifle owner or someone looking to strengthen your understanding of the system, this course will provide the knowledge and hands-on instruction needed to confidently operate and maintain your carbine.

Students will learn the core principles of safe and effective carbine operation, along with the fundamentals necessary to build accuracy and reliability with the rifle.

By the end of the course, students will have a clear understanding of how their rifle works, how to properly maintain it, and how to operate it safely and effectively on the range.

While this course is primarily designed around the AR-15/M4 platform, other carbine rifles such as AK or SKS pattern rifles are welcome. However, instruction will focus specifically on the AR-15 style rifle system.

This class will primarily be in a classroom setting, but will have some live fire elements, so students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Carbine II: Tactical Carbine (M4/AR-15)

This advanced course is designed to develop tactical marksmanship, speed, and efficient movement with the carbine rifle. Building on the foundational skills learned in earlier training, this class focuses on applying the carbine in defensive scenarios where rapid decision-making, accuracy, and mobility are critical.

Carbine I, or equivalent experience, is a required prerequisite for this course.

Students will refine their ability to operate the carbine quickly and efficiently while engaging targets under more dynamic conditions. Instruction emphasizes proper movement principles, rapid target engagement, and maximizing the effectiveness of the rifle in close-range encounters.

This course is ideal for shooters who already have a practical understanding of firearms but want to develop the specific skills required to effectively deploy a carbine in a defensive or tactical environment.

Course Length - 8 Hours Fee - $350 Minimum Ammunition Required - 500 rounds

Precision Rifle I: Long Gun Fundamentals

This course is intended for shooters who want to increase their skill and knowledge of the long rifle as a system. The classroom portion will consist of a rifle and gear assessment, recommendations for equipment, fundamentals review, and the reasoning behind fundamentals. Then it is off to the firing line for sight-in and fundamental shooting drills that are a must for every serious precision shooter. Students enrolling in this course must bring a quality bolt-action or a semi-automatic center-fire rifle, in good working condition, chambered in calibers .223-.30, including: a good quality optical sight, bi-pod, and rear bag. Students will be shooting at a distance of 100 yards. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Course Length - 8 Hours Fee - $250 Minimum Ammunition Required - 100 rounds

Precision Rifle II: Exterior Ballistics In Practice

This course requires the skills learned in the Precision Rifle I course and focuses on exterior ballistics in real world use. You will learn how to arrive at your scope correction factor, use multiple B.C.'s and true your shooting solutions for 1st round hits at distance. You will experience both controlled and uncontrolled variables and learn the correct way to deal with them in the field. Students will be shooting from 100 through 1250 yards. Students enrolling in this course must bring a quality bolt-action or a semi-automatic center-fire rifle, in good working condition, chambered in calibers that are supersonic to 1000yds, equipped with a good-quality optical sight, as well as a rear bag, and have it properly zeroed at 100 yards. Precision Rifle I and the “Shooter Ballistics” courses are a pre-requisite. You will need ammunition capable of at least 1 MOA at distance. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions.

Precision Rifle III: Advanced Long Range Rifle

This course further refines the skills acquired in the Precision Rifle I & II courses. The instructor will cover wind reading, hi/low angle shots, position shooting, sling use, obstacle shooting, low light conditions, and a host of other subjects.  This course builds on the concepts of marksmanship by teaching the student how to shoot to the strongest position. Students will be shooting from 100 to 1250 yards in varying light and wind conditions and must bring rifles that are properly zeroed at 100 yards and chambered for cartridges capable of sustaining supersonic velocity to 1000 yards. Precision Rifle II is a pre-requisite. Students should come prepared for any weather conditions. Please contact the instructor for a list of other required gear.
